I was surprised by how difficult it was for me to let go and bring this book to a close. There was always one more story or photograph to add, and editing seemed endless, but this Hippie and her Marine had to stop somewhere. I stayed away from formality, structure, and rules (always easy for me to do) and wrote from my heart. Once my memory kicked in, thoughts and emotions flowed. I’ve loved every step of the process, from researching, reminiscing, writing, editing, and the icing on the cake, a book for my kids and grandkids. My Dad was right that we all have stories inside worth sharing; how wonderful it would have been if he had preserved a few of his own. Thank you to my loving family for constantly cheering me on and for letting me include some of your precious stories. Here’s to celebrating all the love we pass on from one generation to the next. I love you.
